Certified Hoodia: The Best on the Market

Hoodia Gordonii needs to be legitimate and pure to be the best appetite suppressant. Some science as well as law is involved to make this supplement just that and it includes certifications, patents and alkemist lab results to be sure that Hoodia Gordonii is in fact Hoodia Gordonii.

Certified Hoodia

Certified Hoodia starts with who gives the certification. This would be the CITES organization. CITES, or the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, is an international agreement between governments with the aim to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival as described on the CITES website, cites.org. The CITES website also says that it works by subjecting international trade in selected species to certain controls and all import, export, re-export of species covered by the Convention has to be authorized through a licensing program. So in the case of Hoodia, being on the endangered list by CITES, all growing and harvesting and exporting, etc. much come with approval and certification by CITES.

Also, being protected under CITES makes Hoodia Gordonii rare and occasionally difficult to acquire. Because of this, the cost of true Hoodia Gordonii also fluctuates and will cost more than the fraudulent or altered Hoodia products.

Another manner in which Hoodia is considered certified is through where is came from. The CITES certification helps in this manner since it will tell where the Hoodia came from. If it came from South Africa, then one should be assured it is true Hoodia. Since a specific variety Hoodia is only native to this part of the world and not to others, a person will know the product is certified to be the actual Hoodia rather than inactive Hoodia grown in other parts of the world such as Mexico or China.

Lastly, independent lab testing is another form of certifying the Hoodia Gordonii. Third party labs scientifically analyze Hoodia Gordonii to authenticate its presence in the product. There are four main tests done to prove a raw material is what it says it is. These tests that are conducted are named P57, HPLC, HPTLC and Microscopy/DPI. There are four known laboratories as of 2007 that are independent labs making sure Hoodia is authentic. These labs are Alkemist Pharmaceuticals, Advanced Laboratories, Inc., The University of Mississippi and Chromadex Lab. AHPA (American Herbal Products Association) is working on a more standardized way to improve authenticating Hoodia Gordonii. Many companies claim to have pure Hoodia in their product but lack the proper testing to prove it. If fact, recent editorial researched revealed that eleven out of seventeen Hoodia Gordonii products failed lab tests.

Buying certified Hoodia Gordonii will assure the buyer of purchasing the intended product and will help to achieve one's weight goals. Having a safe, effective product being tested to make sure it is what you expect to be safe and effective rather than harmful and worthless is beneficial to the buyer and the seller.
