Hoodia Gordonii Reviews

Hoodia Gordonii Reviews

There are many opinions regarding the Hoodia Gordonii plant both in favor of and against. Here are some reviews on both sides of the table.

In Favor of: It's marketed as a weight loss ingredient that will help one lose weight without feeling hungry.

In Favor of: For thousands of years the San Bushmen of the Kalahari desert area, have eaten the meaty part of the Hoodia Gordonii plant to curb hunger and thirst on long trips.

In Favor of: Although the study may not be considered by medical professionals, the trial did show that the volunteers that were given the active ingredient found in Hoodia Gordonii, reduced their caloric intake by 1,000 and had no side effects.

In Favor of: Although there has no controlled trial to show benefits or hazards, it is still considered by many to at the very least have potential as an appetite suppressor.

In Favor of: Hoodia Gordonii comes in a variety of forms to best suit the individual. There is an extract for that can be mixed with any beverage and is considered to be possibly the best on the market. Capsule form is a relatively easy form by simply swallowing. There is a product similar to a chocolate bar with Hoodia Gordonii in it. It also comes as a gum, which seems to lend itself to a more responsible approach, that you chew the gum between diet meals as a way to avoid being hungry during that time frame. Along the same ideas is a tea that one would steep before meals or between meals to hold off hunger discomfort and being in tea form it carries other health benefits such as boosting the metabolism, helping to burn stored fat and calories while increasing energy levels. Lastly there is the shake, low on calories and carbohydrates and high in vitamins and minerals as well as Hoodia, has been found to be satisfying by some.

Against: Only one clinical trial was conducted so far and the results for this trial were never open for peer-review and thus is not considered into account.

Against: Hoodia Gordonii is native to the Kalahari desert area and is considered an endangered species. Growing and harvesting is monitored through an organization to be sure of illegal activities. Also, Hoodia Gordonii takes between 5 and 7 years before it is even ready for harvesting and processing. These two problems lead to a scarce product as well as altered or fake supplements claiming to be Hoodia Gordonii or they are such a small percentage of the active ingredient that is rendered ineffective.

Against: Though there are good ideas containing the supplement Hoodia Gordonii, there are those that aren't so good. One such idea is companies that lure one in some how by a free sample or other method and then one is trapped on an automated purchasing system. Be sure to read all information when buying supplements. Another not-so-great idea is the Hoodia Patch - not only do these patch companies show no proof of what they are selling but they are hardly effective at all. Another area less than wonderful is a product called H57 Hoodia which is a blend of ingredients allowing the company to put a rather low ratio of Hoodia in and thereby rendering its effect on a person to null.

There just isn't enough information either way to say if Hoodia Gordonii is good or bad or does anything. Individually, one must make the best decision for him or herself by being watchful in all areas.
