How to Tell if You are About to Purchase a Natural Hoodia Gordonii Product

Natural Hoodia Gordonii Product

Hoodia Gordonii is found in its natural element and would be located in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana on the African continent. Hoodia Gordonii is a succulent plant that grows like tall cucumbers grouped together and has been reported to have medicinal benefits. The San Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert area are reported to have used this plant by stripping off the spines and skin, eating the inside flesh and core. They used the plant occasionally for treating small infections, indigestion and most known for today is the benefit for eliminating hunger and thirst during long hunting and gathering trips.

First discovered by Dutch anthropologist, Hoodia Gordonii was observed to be sucked and munched on during the Bushmen's long trips and apparently used by these peoples for thousands of years. Much later in the 70's, the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) was able to isolate the active ingredient found in Hoodia Gordonii, now named p57, responsible for its appetite-suppressant effect.

Although there is no published studies that show evidence to Hoodia Gordonii working to suppress the appetite. Animal research included a published study where an extract of Hoodia Gordonii p57 was injected into the brains of rats. The rat research showed a decrease in weight in rat bodies. In a BBC interview explaining how Hoodia Gordonii works, Phytopharm's (pharmaceutical company conducting research on Hoodia Gordonii) Dr. Richard Dixey said,There is a part of your brain, the hypothalamus. Within that mid-brain there are nerve cells that sense glucose sugar. When you eat, blood sugar goes up because of the food, these cells start firing and now you are full. What the Hoodia seems to contain is a molecule that is about 10,000 times as active as glucose. It goes to the mid-brain and actually makes those nerve cells fire as if you were full. But you have not eaten. Nor do you want to.Some people have reported that the Hoodia Gordonii supplement works immediately while others have reported needing up to two weeks of regularly taking the supplement before they notice the benefits. Claims from taking Hoodia Gordonii include a reduced interest in eating food, a delay in time for which hunger is felt, a feeling of fullness more quickly when food is eaten and also an overall feeling of well-being.

Native Hoodia Gordonii is an endangered species plant which is closely governed by the CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) organization and it is illegal to grow, harvest or export without a CITES license or certificate. Hoodia Gordonii is only native to the Kalahari and Hoodia grown elsewhere is not authentic and will not contain the active ingredient that is found in South African Hoodia Gordonii. In the USA, if a company is selling true and quality Hoodia Gordonii, they will have proof of independent lab testing being done. All these things together should lead a purchaser of Hoodia Gordonii to find a true product and hopefully the expected weight loss benefits that go with the desert plant supplement.
